“Yoga can seem intimidating, or unexciting to some, but these days there is a yoga style for everyone. Frankly, you can bring a yogic mentality to any activity. You can bring attention, awareness and intention to running or indoor cycling or hiking. So if the traditional Hatha yoga is not for you, maybe bringing more of yourself into your run is your yoga.” - Mandy Ingber on the wide reach of yoga. Mandy also shares with Fit Celeb that the film Eat Pray Love is bringing yoga into the lives of an even wider community. Photo courtesy of Mandy Ingber

Trainer Jarett Del Bene’s Celeb Emmy Workout

With the Emmy Awards this weekend, Hollywood is stepping up its game to ensure nothing but fab moments happen on the red carpet. There’s makeup and hair to tend to; and, of course, finding the right dress ! But weeks before the Emmys is even underway, Jarett Del Bene tells Us Weekly , celebs start getting serious about their fitness routine. Here’s how Jarett preps his clients, which include Lauren Conrad, Lindsay Lohan, and Nina Dobrev, to look their best before heading down the red carpet. Up the cardio . Typically, Jarett has his clients work out three days a week, doing an hour of cardio each time. But during the awards season he increases their workout by one to two additional hours of cardio each week. Vary the workout . If you want to get fast results, Jarett says you have to “shock the body” by changing up your fitness routine. When he is prepping a client for an event, he makes sure her cardio workouts vary through the week: “One day we’ll do a kickboxing session, the next day we’ll go running or for a hike in the hills, and then the next day we’ll do some biometric training, like jump squats, box jumps, agility drills with cones.” Reduce carbs . If you’re crunched for time, Jarett suggests going on a low-carb diet. To prep for an awards show, Jarett puts his celeb clients on a 1,500 calorie diet. They eat the heaviest carbs in the morning, a shake for lunch, and fish, veggies, and brown rice for dinner. They also have a snack during the day, which is typically a piece of fruit.

How to Get Kate Hudson’s Abs

With bikini season underway, abs are a hot topic for a lot of women. Kate Hudson’s trainer Ashley Conrad is here to help, and she recently shared with InTouch Weekly how she gets Kate looking so fit. The key, says Ashley, is staying hydrated. Start every morning with hot water and lemon, and then drink “three chopped-up lemons with water a day to flush out water retention.” Make sure to eat five times a day, too, including lots of lean protein like chicken and fish in your diet. And just like fitness expert Jackie Warner , Ashley is a fan of the shake: “Midmorning, have a protein shake made with a third of a banana, some cinnamon and a half-cup of frozen spinach, plus a spoonful of raw almond butter.” It’s not just about diet though, which Kate obviously knows since she was spotted leaving the gym this week. Ashley has Kate do lateral slides to burn calories while also toning the legs, thighs, and core. “Just like you see basketball players do in training , this move is one of my best secrets,” says Ashley.

Jackie Warner on Fat Burning and Weight Loss Supplements

I interviewed trainer Jackie Warner recently, and before we spoke I asked you all to submit questions for her . Sugar user LD fit was curious to know Jackie’s take on weight loss and fat burning supplements like CLA. Here’s what Jackie had to say on the matter: “I love certain supplements. There are some very safe supplements that don’t cause any harm to the body and you can take forever and I’ll give her a few. One is a branch change amino acids which are called ETAAs and they are the aminos that will help you with fat metabolism and then the other is glutamine , which is another amino acid. It is the only one to reach the blood stream barrier so it’s a very powerful one and the benefits to glutamine are numerous. Not just muscle building and weight loss but also a lot of studies have shown that it helps with memory and acuity. Then there is L-carnitine which is a good one to take - a major fat burner - and you can take it forever. These are all safe to take everyday, forever.” Jackie has more to say on the subject so keep on reading.

How to Rough It and Still Look Red-Carpet Ready

I love to camp. And I am, for the most part, pretty OK with whatever the wilderness throws at me. Not the case with everyone - including a few friends of mine that sometimes join me in the outdoor fun. What I’ve learned from them over the years is that newbie campers have the most trouble with sleeping outside and abandoning their normal beauty and hygiene regimen. If you know someone like this - or if this is you - here are a few essentials to make sure you get a good night’s rest and also look your absolute best (without seeming like a princess). If you love watching Jillian Michaels’ antics on The Biggest Loser , then you will be psyched to know she’s getting her own TV show - Losing It With Jillian . The eight-episode series will air in 2010 on NBC. This fitness-obsessed health nut is traveling the country and moving in with desperate families for an entire week, picking out their bad habits, and showing them how to live healthier and happier. Jillian says, “When your health is out of balance everything else suffers - finances, relationships, work, and family dynamics.” This tough-love trainer isn’t doing it alone. Celebrity chef Curtis Stone will also be offering tips on nutrition, portion sizes, and how to cook with healthy ingredients. Jillian explained the inspiration for the show like this: “In a way, it [the show] is a response to the comments we always get on Loser . We always hear, ‘It’s so easy to lose weight when you move into the camp and you’re living with trainers.’ and ‘Would they really be able to lose the weight if there wasn’t money on the line?’” Well, I guess we’ll find out.

Can’t Run? Celeb Trainer Suggests the Treadmill Climb

Running isn’t for everyone. While it makes me feel amazing, it’s not so easy on the joints, which prevents some people from enjoying this form of cardio. If an injury has you searching for an alternative that provides similar physical benefits to running, celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak has a wonderfully grueling substitute. Pasternak has trained celebrities like Alicia Keys, Eva Mendes, and Halle Berry, and recently he’s been whipping The Fast and the Furious actress Jordana Brewster into fantastic shape. Women’s Health interviewed Jordana and got the scoop about her workouts, learning that she likes having a routine “because everything else . . . is so unpredictable.” She shared her routine with WH and said, I do cardio six days a week, with weight resistance in between. I also work with [celebrity trainer] Harley Pasternak three times a week. I used to run, but can’t anymore because [it hurts my knees]. But what’s just as effective? Putting the treadmill at an incline of 12- that’s steep!-and climbing for 30 to 40 minutes. Sounds like a workout that would definitely work up a sweat. Here’s an uphill treadmill hike workout for you to try. Has an injury prevented you from running?

Celeb Trainer Valerie Waters on Biel’s Booty and Burning Fat

There’s no hiding bellies or behinds when all you’re wearing is a bikini. Shape recruited celebrity trainer Valerie Waters for a few tips on getting ready to bare it all - who better than a woman who has worked with clients like Jennifer Garner and Jessica Biel? Valerie insists that eating clean (and eating breakfast) are big parts of the equation for achieving the body you want, and making your workouts count is the other factor in getting your figure bikini-ready. Her plan: Strength train three days a week, focusing on the big muscles (legs, chest, back, and arms). Increase the amount of fat you burn by doing interval training the other three days. To learn what Valerie recommends for getting a shapely booty like Jessica’s, read more. Valerie plugged her product when she told Shape , ” The Valslide is the secret weapon for a lot of celebrities because it will change your butt faster than anything you’ve seen. It’s like using a slide board except that’s it’s smaller.” She added, “You can do so much to work your butt with no equipment: squats, lunges, step-ups.” If you’re not in the market for her $30 fitness tool, print out my nine-exercise glutes and hamstrings workout. Take it to the gym with you, and start working that booty.
