‘Tis the season for warming up with a steamy beverage. Hot chocolate is one of my favorites because it’s so rich, creamy, and sweet. A 12-ounce hot chocolate made with 2 percent milk and topped with whipped cream contains 290 calories . If you’re worried about what that cup of chocolaty goodness will do to your waistline, here are some wintry ways to work it off. All calculations are based on a 130-pound woman. Hit the slopes and ski for 42 minutes. If you’re into riding instead, 47 minutes of snowboarding will burn 291 calories. Spend 41 minutes snowshoeing . Lace up your skates and ice skate for 42 minutes. If you prefer ice hockey instead, play for 37 minutes. To find out what else you can do read more. If you hop on a bike and take a spinning class , you’ll have burned 297 calories after 36 minutes, After an hour-long class, you’ll have burned 495. If a vigorous yoga class is more your style, after 42 minutes, you’ll have burned 290 calories; stay for the full 90-minutes class and you’ll have burned over 600 calories. Jog for 42 minutes either outside or on the treadmill. Go for an hour-and-15-minute brisk walk . Hop in the pool and swim laps for 37 minutes. Looking to lighten up this treat? If you hold the whipped cream, and have your hot chocolate made with nonfat milk, you’ll save 100 calories.

Made famous as one of the gifts offered by the wise men on the very first Christmas, it looks like myrrh fights cholesterol . The tree resin found in the Middle East has been used in healing remedies for centuries to treat sore throats, congestion, and cuts and burns. Now myrrh has been found to lower levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) while raising good (HDL) cholesterol - at least in rats, which were used in a recent experiment. Common in perfumes and incense, myrrh must be researched more thoroughly to determine the most effective means in delivering cholesterol-lowering properties of myrrh to humans.
